Behind the Scenes: Editing Part II
After you’ve finished trimming your interview down to size as we saw in Part I, what you have to do next is examine the content. I’ve found that one of the advantages of using a DAW like Hindenburg Journalist is its ability to classify the content of an interview.
If you look at the screenshot above, you can see that the blocks of audio are the same as before, but I’ve gone through the interview to identify questions and answers and copied them to the clipboard ready to slot them into the programme. I’ve also identified some potential quotes I can put in the teaser segment at the beginning of the show.
Now that I’ve saved the segments I need for the podcast, I start with a clean slate so I can start building it up piece by piece. Here, I’ve inserted the audio introducing the teaser segment and my teaser clips. At the bottom, I’ve added some loops followed by the theme music.
Here’s the completed programme, with an introduction segment, selected parts of the interview dropped back in, a closing section and background music to complete the show. You can hear the finished product here.
